01The belt
Rayagada's paddy is rainfed and upland. No assured irrigation, one crop, and a season that depends entirely on the monsoon arriving when it is supposed to.
The producer groups here are women-led, and every lot is sorted, weighed and labelled in the village before it moves. Hand grading is slower than a machine and considerably more honest about what ends up in the bag, which is also what makes single-mill traceability possible further down the line.
