Swosti Mishra

Founder & Managing Director

Leads the strategy and operations behind both myefarm and the Abeja Labs practice.

Started myefarm out of a straightforward observation made repeatedly in the field: rural producer groups across Odisha were being trained to produce and left without anyone to sell to. The training was rarely the weak link. The absence of a buyer was.

Runs the sourcing side and the advisory practice as one thing rather than two, because the produce myefarm sells and the groups Abeja Labs builds are the same producers approached from different ends.

Most of the work is unglamorous and specific: fixing prices ahead of sowing so a grower can plan, keeping grading in the village so a lot stays traceable, and deciding which groups are ready to carry their own brand and which are better served selling under myefarm.

Pritesh Kumar Jena

Co-founder & Executive Director

Director of Abeja Labs, responsible for the technical and market-intelligence side of the practice.

Works on the part of rural enterprise that has to survive contact with a buyer: compliance that holds up to a check, records that exist when someone asks for them, and the market information a group needs before it commits a season to a crop.

Directs Abeja Labs, the consulting practice behind the programmes delivered with NGO, CSR and government partners, including the Kandhamal programme and the lemon-oil processing unit built with the Gajapati collective.

Spends a considerable amount of time in the districts, which is where most of the assumptions in a programme design get corrected.

03How it is run

One organisation, deliberately not two companies.

The produce myefarm sells and the groups Abeja Labs builds come from the same villages. Splitting them into separate businesses would mean the sourcing side optimising for cheap supply and the advisory side optimising for billable programmes, which is exactly the dynamic that leaves producer groups where they started.

Most assumptions in a programme design get corrected in the district, not the office.
